intro
----------------
These inexpensive (under $100) JBL 2 way speakers carry a unique shape truly designed for wall placement as rear surround speakers. It also has to upward firing bass reflex holes.A nice silver speaker grille. It is very modern looking.
first listen
------------
Very nice binding posts on the back and I noticed that to get the max out of these requires proper position of the speakers. So I mounted them on my rear wall of my home theater. What I noticed first was that distinct punchy JBL sound .A very high end audio sound similar to Polk or Klipsch. While it has little bass , it does deliver a silky, smooth high end which perfects a 5.1 or higher surround system. It was a clean sound and was fine for rear surrounds. I suppose one could eq more bass out of them if needed. For comparison, I swapped them out with some Klipsch speakers and found that smooth silky high missing though the Klipsch offered a bit more body.
Conclusion
---------------
There is no question that for this price point (street price of $59 or so) that these jbl are a steal. They will enhance any surround system and because there isn't much low end content in the surround ch's, these JBL's will do just fine.I would feel a bit silly with $300 Klipsch speakers as rears considering that there is not much rear surround content to begin with. Overall, these are a real bargain and do what they are designed to do: be a quality surround speaker.
